1. Overview
In "Oil Painting" mode in Longer Studio, the software uses AI algorithms to transform image into full-color image with oil painting style and depth image that creates a 3D relief effect. Combined with the ePrint series UV printers, it produces oil painting-style artwork on an oil painting canvas with raised 3D brushstroke textures.
This guide covers the complete process, including canvas preparation, AI-generated oil painting styles, print parameter settings, and the printing process.
2. Important Notes
- Make sure the canvas on the oil painting frame is tightly stretched, completely dry, and free of dust and oil. Otherwise, ink adhesion may be affected.
- The oil painting frame thickness must be within the machine's supported range. Always measure the material height before printing.
- The depth image determines the 3D relief effect and texture levels. We recommend printing a small sample first to check the thickness and colors before starting the full print.
- Do not touch the printed surface immediately after printing. Allow the ink layers to fully cure before moving the oil painting frame.
3. Preparations
- A calibrated Longer ePrint UV printer
- A pre-stretched linen oil painting frame (printing material)
- A lint-free soft cloth, masking tape, and adhesive tape (for cleaning and securing)
- A computer with Longer Studio installed
- A clean, dust-free working environment: temperature of 20–25°C and humidity of 40%–60%
- Hard UV ink
4. Operating Steps
Step 1: Prepare the Oil Painting Frame
- Check that the oil painting frame is tightly stretched and flat. Repair or flatten any damaged or loose areas before printing.
- Wipe the surface with a lint-free soft cloth to remove dust, oil, and loose fibers.
- Apply masking tape along the sides of the oil painting frame to prevent ink from printing onto the edges.
Step 2: Position the Oil Painting Frame
- Place the oil painting frame flat on the base plate, aligning it with the grid markings.

Step 3: Upload Your Image
- Click the "image" icon in the left toolbar, then click "Click to upload" to select the image you want to turn into an oil painting.

Step 4: Choose an Oil Painting Style
- After selecting your image, choose "Oil Painting" under "Print Mode" on the right panel. Then click "AI Generate Oil Painting" to generate an oil painting-style image using the default style. (This feature requires you to register and log in to your account and purchase credits.)

- Alternatively, click "AI Make" in the left toolbar. (Using AI Make consumes credits.) Under "Print", select "Oil Painting Deco", then click "Oil Painting" to choose a different oil painting style. Upload your image, set the image aspect ratio, and click "send". Once the image is generated, click "Import to canvas".

- Refer to the table below for different oil painting styles and their recommended subjects:
| Style | Suitable Subjects |
| Oil Painting | Portraits, landscape photography, and still-life compositions |
| Impasto Oil Painting | Flower fields, seaside scenes, countryside landscapes, and large areas of color |
| Watercolor | Portraits, pets, flowers, and light compositions with open space |
| Afro Pop Art | Portraits, flowers, birds, and decorative patterns |
| Traditional Chinese Ink Painting | Landscapes, plants, flowers, and traditional Chinese-style scenery |
Step 5: Adjust the Image Position and Size
- Click "Applications" → "Workspace Framing" → "Capture". Once the camera preview is complete, align the image with the oil painting frame.

- Select the image on the canvas. Adjust its position using the X/Y settings and change its size by modifying the W/H values. You can also drag the image directly to resize it.

Step 6: Set the Print Parameters
- Under "Processing Settings" on the right panel, configure the following parameters:
| Parameter | Recommended Value | Description |
| Material | Oil Painting Canvas / Unknown Material | Select the option that matches your actual printing material. |
| Quality | Standard | Balances printing efficiency and quality. |
| Material Drop | Low Drop | Suitable for flat-surface printing. |
| Printhead | KCMYWV (Hard Ink) | Hard white ink is used to build up the 3D relief effect. |

Note: If you select "Unknown Material", you can customize the ink configuration and printhead parameters. This option is suitable for materials not listed in the material library or for special printing setups.
Step 7: Select the Print Mode
- Open the "Print Mode" down menu on the right panel and select "Oil Painting". In this mode, the printer first uses white ink to build up raised brushstroke textures based on the grey image, then prints the color layers.

Step 8: Set the Printing Layer Count
- The number of layers determines the 3D relief thickness. Choose the layer count based on your desired visual effect. To add gloss and enhance the color appearance, you can also enable the "Gloss Layer " below.
| Print Layer Count | 3D Relief Effect |
| 15–31 layers | Subtle texture, suitable for detailed and delicate images |
| 31–41 layers | More visible brushstrokes, suitable for a bold, textured oil painting effect |

Six-White vs. Single-White Printing
- Six-White printing can build up multiple white ink layers in one pass, resulting in faster output and stronger coverage. However, thicker ink layers may cover some image details. Single-White printing is recommended for detailed designs, fine lines, and small text, while Six-White printing is better suited for large areas of solid color or dark-colored printing materials.
Step 9: Adjust the Grey Image
- The grey image (depth image) determines the thickness and levels of the 3D relief effect. The software automatically generates a default grey image based on the original image, which you can use directly. Alternatively, you can import and replace it with a grey image generated using a third-party AI tool.
- Click the grey image to open the editor. Drag the triangular slider below the histogram to adjust the K value (black). A higher K value increases the ink output in the corresponding areas, creating thicker 3D relief layers. A lower K value reduces ink output and produces a shallower relief effect. We recommend printing a sample to confirm the final result.

Step 10: Start Printing and Check the Finished Product
- After confirming that the style image, print parameters, and grey image are correct, click "Process" to start printing. Once the file has been processed and uploaded successfully, press the power button on the machine to confirm and begin printing.
- Check the finished product. Make sure the colors are accurate, the 3D relief layers are even, and there are no stains or alignment issues.
